ABOUT Marie-Josée Dupré

A lawyer by trade, Marie-Josée Dupré worked as a temp at SOCAN while studying, was called to the Bar in 1991, and started her own practice. For two years, she mostly practiced in Family Law, but the experience was not quite fulfilling enough. An opportunity at SOCAN had just opened up at the same time, so she joined the organization and worked with it for 20 years, until October 2014. She held a number of positions in the Licensing Department, and was ultimately appointed Director of Industry Relations. A longtime music lover, she found that endorsing the cause and defending the rights of music creators was a great combination – and challenge – that corresponded to her values.
